The stories I tell in my films are small ones, they might even be stories one would feel are not worth telling: the way an old man places his cigarette on an ashtray, the precise and unhesitant way a girl tucks a Tupperware full of red sauce under her arm or how a finger flickers towards a foreign piece of skin; all mean so much more than they first seem to. And reaching the powerful, hidden within the mundane by keeping the focus on what feels derisory at first, is what I persistently strive towards in my work
